The Structure
The Santa Margherita Terra e Sole Cooperative performs
the stages of sorting and packaging in a modern 3800-square-metre
plant equipped with electronically controlled machinery for the processing
of fruit and vegetables. Sorting is by size and colour under the
careful supervision of highly qualified personnel. Packaging on automated
lines and the subsequent palletizing prepare the produce for shipment
in a very short time.
At present the Santa Margherita Terra e
Sole Cooperative has
180 members who produce tomatoes on some 80 hectares of greenhouses
located prevalently in the area of Santa Margherita di Pula,
on Sardinia’s southern coast. Another 500 hectares located in
different parts of the island are used for the growing of artichokes.
